Celebration of the World

ENVIRONMENT DAY
The World Environment Day was observed with great fervour and enthusiasm by the Soil & Water Conservation Department. The observance of the Day was held all over the length and breadth of the State in which the villagers, the student community, Non-Government Organisations and interested individuals participated. The district offices of the Department were responsible for organizing programmes for World Environment Day in their respective areas and jurisdictions. 

FUNCTIONS AND CELEBRATION 

The Soil & Water Conservation Department, Meghalaya bagged the first prize for decoration and display at the Exhibition organized by the Government of Meghalaya at Polo Ground from 21st January, 2003 to 25th January, 2003 to Celebrate " Meghalaya Day". A Certificate of merit as well as a memento was also awarded to the Department on the occasion 

VISITS AND INSPECTIONS

Shri A.K.Srivastava, I.F.S, Additional Commissioner (Forestry) Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India visited Umpling and Umlew Micro-Watershed -Watershed Development Project In Shifting Cultivation Areas. He was accompanied by Shri A.Syiem, Joint Director of Soil Conservation (Headquarter), Shri D.S. Kharsyntiew, Joint Director of Soil Conservation (CTI), Shri K.W.Marbaniang, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer & Project Leader, Smti.S.Pohsnem, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer & Watershed Secretary, besides members of Umlew and Umpling - Umrynjah Watershed Association and Committees. 

STUDY TOUR

The 30th Batch, Field Assistant Trainees of Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat visited the Kaziranga National Park, Hindustan Paper Corporation limited and Nowgong Paper Project, Jagi Road, Assam during March 2003, as part of their field tour.

TRAINING  PROGRAMMES

Training Programme was organised by the office of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Tura (T) Division, at Youth Hostel, Tura for members of various Watershed Committees and Self Help Groups under the scheme of Integrated Wasteland Development Project of Bakora Micro-Watershed Project. Smti I.R. Sangma, Project Director, DRDA was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present are D.F.O, (T) Tura, State Bank Officials, Joint Director, Soil Conservation Department, Tura, District Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer, Executive Officer, Meghalaya Commercial Crop Development Board and Project Manager, IFAD, Tura
