Observation of "Water Months"

Soil and Water Conservation Department celebrated the "Water Month" during July-August, 2003 in all the districts of the State. The different Divisions of the Department organized a series of Programme and functions relating to water in operational areas where the watershed Development Project in Shifting Cultivation Areas are implemented.

Celebration of National Land Resources Conservation Week

The National Land Resources Conservation Week, 2003 was observed from 14th to 20th November, 2003 in the State of Meghalaya. The observation of the Week was organized by the Department in various villages in all the Districts of the State.

Protection of the Environment Is the Need Of The Hour

Many programmes for a better environment and conservation of natural resources are being carried out over the world today As we all know that amongst the nine planets of the Solar System, the planet earth is the only one where life exists. Plants, animals, and human beings exists on earth and life is not found everywhere because survival requires a particular type of environment.

Exchange Educational Tour

Exchange Educational Tour of the District Soil Conservation Officers from Garo and Khasi Hills visited citrus, Rubber plantation and nurseries under Lumshnong Cash Crop Range, Jaintia Hills District whereby, exchange of ideas and interaction between the touring officers and the officers of the District took place.

Horticulture and Plantation Crops Development in Jaintia Hills District, Prospects and Constraint

Horticulture and Plantation crops play a unique role in developing countries like India both in economic and social spheres for improving income, nutritional value particularly in rural masses and for maintaining ecological balance as well as in checking soil erosion.

Convocation

The annual Passing Out Ceremony of the 30th batch of Field Assistant Course was held at the Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat. Altogether 13 nos. of trainees passed out during the year.

Participation/Awareness/Function/Celebration

The Simsanggre Soil Conservation Division participated in the "People’s Development Meet" organized by the Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar on 8th & 9th October, 2003 at Kharkutta C.D. Block and on 21st & 22nd October, 2003 at Dambo Rongjeng C.D. Block in collaboration with the respective C & R D Block Office.

Visits and Inspections

Shri D.P. Wahlang, IAS., Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District along with Shri H.M. Shangpliang, MCS., Project Director, DRDA, visited Umjilieng Micro-Watershed, Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP), East Khasi Hills District and visited the composite nursery at Pomlum.

Training Programmes
