SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION

January - June, 2005.

1. Meeting on Implementation of Watershed Programme under IWDP (2003-2004) was held on 12.5.2005 in the seminar room of Divisional Officer Shillong (T) in which PRA exercises and Watershed Development Plans are discussed.

2. Awareness Programme on formation of SHGs relevance with the SGSY was held on 20.5.2005 at Umiew Maw-u-sam Presbyterian L.P. School (East Khasi Hills).

3. Awareness Programme on Watershed Development held at Myllat Upper Primary School, Myllat on 30.5.2005 (East Khasi Hills)

4. Interface meeting with members of SHGs on identification and selection of infrastructure development under SGSY held at Sadew, Community Hall on 29.4.2005.

5. Interface meeting of SHGs in Watershed Development Programmes WDPSCA/IWDP held on 15.6.2005 at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong.

6. Awareness Programme cum training on Watershed Development held on 6.6.2005 in the Community Hall, Pongkung under Mawsynram Community Development Block East Khasi Hills.

7. Awareness Programme cum training on Watershed Development IWDP (2003-2004) held at L.P.School, Diengpasoh on 9.6.2005.

8. Awareness Programme cum training on Watershed Development held at Umdiengpoh, Ram Krishna L.P. School on 10.6.2005.

9. Meeting held on 25.5.2005 at the Office Chamber of DSCO Shillong (T) in which discussions were held on Progress of Watershed operational works in IWDP, WDPSCA, RVP., SHGs interface meeting IWDP (2000-01) WDPSCA (1999-2000), Watershed Treatment Plan – (2003-2004, 2004-05), Awareness Programmes on Watershed Development IWDP., World Environment Day celebration 2005 and Grading of SHGs, RF, Mid-Term Loan.

10. Field visit of Shri M.S.Yadav, National Level Monitor (NLM) for reviewing the various on-going Central Sector/Centrally Sponsored Schemes/Programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development being implemented by the DRDA’s in East Khasi Hills District in the State of Meghalaya from 17th to 27th June 2005.

11. On 27th April, 2005 officers of the Division delivered speeches in the Awareness campaign at Thadmyntri village on soil and water conservation measures and explained the guidelines and programme to be implemented under I.W.D.P.

The Passing Out Ceremony of the Five Day Orientation Training Course for enhancing productivity of degraded lands in the catchments of river valley projects and flood prone rivers was held on 22nd April, 2005. Shri D.S. Kharsyntiew, Joint Director of Soil & Water Conservation, Research and Training was the Chairman at the Ceremony.

Resource persons for the course, which commence from 18th April, 2005 are drawn from the I.C.A.R. Complex for North Eastern Region, Umiam and from the Instructors of the Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat.

Altogether, 18 officers hailing from different Departments, which include Agriculture, Forest, Soil and Water Conservation Department of Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya participated in the training.

Training on Office Management for the Soil & Water Conservation Rangers was held for three days from 26th to 28th May, 2005 at the Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat where 19 Soil & Water Conservation Rangers drawn from all seven districts of the State attended. The Resource persons at the training are Shri S.M.R. Sawkmie, MFS, (Retd) Director of Accounts and Treasuries, Meghalaya and instructors of the Conservation Training Institute.

At the Passing Out Ceremony of the training programme which was chaired by the Joint Director of Soil & Water Conservation (R&T), senior departmental officials include Shri K.C. Momin, Director of Soil & Water Conservation and Shri A. Syiem, Joint Director of Soil & Water Conservation (Hq). Shri Momin distributed the certificates to the trainees.
