World Environment Day Celebrations

The office of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Jowai (T) & Jowai (CC) Division organised a public meeting at Mukhla Raij Secondary School, Mukhla in the presence of huge gathering of students, Members of the public, senior officers of various Government Departments and the elders of the Mukhla Raij. Shri S.Sari, MDC, of the area was the Chief Guest while Smti B.Lamare, Inspector of Schools, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai was the Guest of Honour. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Shri D.K.Khonglah, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer incharge Jowai Soil Conservation Range, Thadlaskein. Tree saplings were planted around the School campus. Others who spoke on the occasion are Smti V.Papang, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Jowai (CC) Shri I.Suna and Shri W.Rymbai, who are the chairman and Secretary of the Mukhla Raij respectively, Shri B.Sari, the Headman of Mukhla Rim Village, Shri A.Ahmed, Headmaster of the Mukhla Raij Secondary School and Shri Francis Lyngdoh, the Headman of Upper Primary School, Mukhla also gave a short speech.

Tree-Planting Cum-Awareness Programme was organised at Kherapara Upper Primary School, West Garo Hills District with Shri W.D.Sangma, MCS., B.D.O. Gambegre Block as the Chief Guest and Shri R.W.Momin, Joint Director of Soil Conservation as the Chairperson of the function. Teachers and Students of Kherapara and Amongpara school participated in the programme. The Welcome address was delivered by Shri S.K.Sangma, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer and the key note address was delivered by Shri B.M.Sangma, Soil Conservation Officer, Monitoring & Evaluation Cell Cum Executive Officer, MCCDB, Tura. The Chief Guest expressed concerned over the various problem prevalent today such as global warming, unhygienic living conditions and unconcerned exploitation of natural resources. Amongst others who spoke on the occasion are the Laskar of Asugre Village and Headmaster of Kherapara Upper Primary School. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Smti S.Ch.Sangma, DSCO, Tura (CC) Division. Tree Saplings were planted in and around the school Compound.

5th June, 2004

Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat celebrated the World Environment Day by planting 200 nos. of seedlings in the arboretum area of the Institute’s campus. The participants at the programme include officers, instructors, staff, trainees and school children of the Conservation Training Institute School. Shri D.S. Kharsyntiew, Joint Director of Soil Conservation (R&T), delivered a speech highlighting the importance of environmental conservation.

7th & 9th June, 2004
(DSCO-Nongpoh)

The office of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Nongpoh organized an Awareness Campaign at the Ri-Bhoi Presbyterian Secondary School, Nongpoh. The function was chaired by Smti. K. Ranee, Headmistress of the School and speakers included Shri Khonglah, Deputy Inspector of School, Ri-Bhoi District and Shri F. Rynjah, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Nongpoh. The speakers dwelt on the present rate of environmental degradation and appealed to the students to create consciousness among their parents and the community on the conservation of natural resources. The vote of thanks was offered by Shri W. Radu, Assistant School Teacher. On this day, 120 nos. of saplings were planted in and around the school premises.

On 9th June, 2004, the Division observed the World Environment Day with the release of 5000 nos. of fingerlings at the community pond under Umshyrku Watershed and Umbyrngaid Watershed.
