TRAINING PROGRAMMES

23rd - 25th March, 2004

A training course on "Capacity Building" was conducted at Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat in which 20 (Twenty) members from various Watershed Associations, Watershed Volunteers and Watershed Committees including community organizers attended. The participants were also taken for field visit to Rural Resources Training Center, Umran, where they were exposed to various improved farming techniques including Intergrated Land use system. The training was funded by the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development , Government of India. Resource Persons for the Training Programme were Officers of the Department.

The Shillong Soil Conservation (T) Division along with the Agriculture and the Horticulture Departments organized a training programme at Umrynjah village under Umpling-Umrynjah Watershed (WDPSCA). Training was imparted on traditional methods of maize, tomato and groundnuts cultivation in which 50 nos. of farmers from the Umpling-Umrynjah watershed area attended.

Resource person includes Dr. C.O. Rangad, District Agriculture Officer, Shillong, Smti. S. Tariang, Assistant Agronomist, Smti. T.M.B. Lynser, SDAO, Smti. D. Mukhim, Horticulture Extension Officer and Shri K.W. Marbaniang, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Shillong (T) Division, who delivered a short speech on the guidelines on WDPSCA. The meeting was chaired by Shri B. Thangkhiew, Chairman, Umpling-Umrynjah Watershed Committee and the Vote of Thanks was offered by Shri A.S. Kharlukhi, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer cum Secretary, Umpling-Umrynjah Watershed Association.

5th - 7th May , 2004.

Shri K.L.Tariang , Director of Soil and Water Conservation , Shri A.Syiem , Joint Director of Soil and Water Conservation (Headquarter) and Shri D.S.Kharsyntiew , Joint Director of Soil and Water Conservation (R & T) C.T.I. Byrnihat attended the Workshop on Citizen’s Charter organized by the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong at MATI Building.

8th June to 11th June , 2004.

Following Officers attended the training course on "Application of plastic in Hill Agriculture" organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at Research Complex, Umroi Road, Umiam, Meghalaya.

28th June , 2004 to 2nd July, 2004.

Shri A.Syiem, Joint Director of Soil and Water Conservation (Headquarter) attended a training programme on "Utilization of IT Tools of Government for middle level Government functionaries of North Eastern States organized by DONER and conducted at NIC Building , Shillong.

28th June to 3rd July, 2004.

The Department deputed the following Assistant Soil Conservation Officer for attending the Training programme on "Participatory Watershed Management" held at National Institute of Rural Development, North Eastern Regional Centre , Guwahati.
