11th November, 2002 (DSCO- NT) : Smt. E. Tariang, Assistant General Manager NABARD, Mumbai Head office and Shri Navde, Deputy General Manager NABARD Shillong visited the Umyiap River Valley Project where the various works implemented were assessed by the Inspected Officials.

The Officials also had direct interaction with the farmers and members of the Project Committee. They were accompanied by Shri A. Syiem, Jt. Director Soil Conservation (Hrgt); Shri D. Langstieh, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Nongstoin; and Shri L. Shabong, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer, Nongstoin.

Tour of Trainees

December, 2002 (DSCO-Tura -CC) : Field Tour of the 30th Batch Field Assistant Trainees of Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat to Tura. Shri H.R. Sangma, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer took the trainees to Dadanggre Soil Conservation Centre and briefly conducted Field Classes on Cultivation of Cashew; Rubber Crops including Tapping and Processing of Latex.

Watershed Development Project in Shifting Cultivation Areas (WDPSCA with Special Central Assistance)

  • To protect and develop the Hill slopes of these areas through different Soil and Water Conservation Measures on Watershed basis and to reduce land degradation process.
  • To encourage and assist the Jhumia families to develop Jhum land for productive use with improved Cultivation and suitable package of practices leading to settled cultivation practices
  • To improve the -economic status of Jhumia families through house hold/land based activities.
  • To mitigate the ill effect of Jhum Cultivation by introducing land use and water management as per capability and improved Technologies.
