Training Programmes

Training on IWDP at Jaintia Hills

A farmers’ Training Programme was conducted at Mupyut L.P. School, Mupyut on the 26th February, 2002 where farmers of Umrayeng and Umshyrpu watersheds attended. Another farmers’ training programme was held at Chiehruphi on the 20th March, 2002 where farmers from Lunar, Umjri, Pamiong, Umshong and Thwai Mynso watersheds attended.

On both the training programmes, Resource persons from the Soil and Water Conservation Department and other allied Departments like Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries etc., delivered lectures on different topics.

On the 28th March, 2002 the Jaintia Hills Soil Conservation (T) Division, Jowai had sent farmers from all the watersheds under Integrated Wasteland Development Project of Jaintia Hills District to Rural Resource Training Centre, Umran for a training-cum-exposure trip where field visits, demonstrations and classroom interaction between the Resource persons and the farmers were conducted.

Training on WDPSCA

Farmers from Jaintia Hills under WDPSCA Scheme visited the ICAR Complex at Barapani in two batches. The first batch which included a group of farmers from Umladoh and Wahdenglun watersheds visited the complex on 26th April, 2002 and the second batch which included farmers from Umsning and Mynso Palong Pomblang watersheds visited the complex on the 30th April, 2002. Both batches attended the training to expose and educate them about the various works under watershed.

The South Garo Hills Division of the Department had deputed a number of farmers for training at the Rural Resource Training Centre, Umran. These farmers from Adap Chiring, Rompa Bisik and Rongma watersheds attended a 15 days training at this Centre from 9th to 23rd February, 2002 for training on fishery, poultry and piggery.

The Tura Soil Conservation (T) Division had conducted a farmers’ training programme at Raphogre under the Rongtap WDPSCA project on the 23rd May, 2002. Distribution of seedlings to the farmers was also a part of the programme.

Training of SHGs under East Khasi Hills Soil Conservation (T) Division – A training on SHGs and Resource Management was conducted at RRTC, Umran, Ri-Bhoi District from 9th to 12th January, 2002. Altogether 15 participants comprising of field functionaries and members of SHGs and community leaders of watershed under East Khasi Hills Soil Conservation (T) Division, attended the training programme.

Training at the CTI, Byrnihat – A four months duration training programme commencing from 1st March, 2002 was held for Forester-I. Four Forester-I trainees from the Forest Department of Meghalaya attended the advance training course at the Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat. Apart from classroom lectures, the trainees were also taken for field visits to various project sites in East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi Districts.

Training at SIRD, Nongsder – a group of ten Assistant Soil Conservation Officers of the Soil and Water Conservation Department attended a training programme on ‘participatory watershed management for organizing Self Help Groups’ from 14th to 17th May, 2002 at SIRD, Nongsder. Besides Classroom lectures, group discussions and interactions between the trainees and the Resource persons, field visits to Umrynjah were conducted and on hands SHG formation at Nongkohlew where IAS probationers also attended.
