Visits and Inspections

21st - 25th March 2004

Dr Suraj Bhan, Additional Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India visited Meghalaya along with Dr. K.K.Satapathy, Principal Scientist ICAR , Barapani who is also a member of the Joint Inspection Team.

On the 22nd March, 2004 the team accompanied by Shri K.L.Tariang, Director of Soil and Water Conservation visited Umsiang Watershed, a completed project of WDPSCA and the On-going project of Umshyrkew Watershed Development under WDPSCA in which they had an interaction with members of the Watershed Committee on matters relating to the implementation of the programme.

The team visited the Umlew, Umpling and Umrynjah Watershed (WDPSCA) on the 23rd June , 2004 and had an informal meeting with various members of Watershed Association, Watershed Committee and members of various Self-Help Groups. The team inspected the various works / activities taken up in the watershed area. Also inspected the Entry Point Activities (EPA) under Umrynjah Village and the Umjalynshir Composite nursery.

On the 24th , June , 2004, the Team visited the Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat.

Two IAS Officers (Probationers) Dr.M Angamuthu and Shri. M.R.Synrem were deputed by Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong for field visits to Watershed areas in East Khasi Hills District in which they paid a visit to nursery site at Umjalynshir under Umlew Watershed (WDPSCA) and interacted with members of the Watershed community followed by meeting with members of Watershed Association, SHGs, Watershed Committee members etc. Various soil and water conservation measures taken up under Umpling-Umrynjah Watershed are also being shown They also visited the nursery sites of Umiew, Umtongsyiem and Umjilieng Micro Watershed (IWDP), Entry Point Activities established through community participation for addressing the felt needs including creation of demand driven village infrastructures. The two IAS officers appreciated the efforts taken up by the Department and the level of participation among the target groups. On 8th May, 2004 they visited the water Harvesting and other Soil and Water Conservation related measures being taken up at Sohrarim, Wahpulit, Cherrapunjee .The officers also visited Mawsmai Eco-Park currently under process of implementation for which the DRDA East Khasi Hills District is the sponsoring agency and the Soil and Water Conservation Department is the project Implementation Agency. (PIA).

The honourable Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Ministry of DONER, Shri P.R. Kyndiah prior to his felicitation by the District Administration and District Congress body along with Shri Charles Pyngrope, Minister Co-Operation, Government of Meghalaya and Smti I.Lyngdoh, Minister of State i/c of Soil Conservation Department etc. Government of Meghalaya, planted Jackaranda seedlings in the office compound of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Nongstoin.

Shri E. Kharmalki, MCS, ADM and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, West Khasi Hills District inspected various works undertaken by the office of the Divisional Officer, Soil Conservation Division, Nongstoin under SGRY, IWDP and State Plan Scheme located under Mawkyrwat, and Ranikor Block/Range. In his speech, Shri E.Kharmalki remarked that the quality of works executed by the Division is commendable.
