28th January, 2003 & 26th March, 2003 :Training Programme was organised by the office of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Tura (T) Division, at Youth Hostel, Tura for members of various Watershed Committees and Self Help Groups under the scheme of Integrated Wasteland Development Project of Bakora Micro-Watershed Project. Smti I.R. Sangma, Project Director, DRDA was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present are D.F.O, (T) Tura, State Bank Officials, Joint Director, Soil Conservation Department, Tura, District Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer, Executive Officer, Meghalaya Commercial Crop Development Board and Project Manager, IFAD, Tura.

29th - 31st January 2003 :Members of different Self Help Groups drawn from all the Watershed Operational Areas of both Integrated Wasteland Development Project and Watershed Development Project in Shifting Cultivation Areas attended the training programme at State Institute for Rural Development, Nongsder on Leadership Training and Formulation Skills for Self Help Groups.
29th - 31st January 2003:Shri K.Sohtun, Compiler and Smti S.Dohtdong, LDA of the Directorate of Soil Conservation, Shillong, attended a training course on "Clearance of Scheme" conducted at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong.
14th January 2003 :Shri.K.L.Tariang, Director of Soil Conservation and Shri K.W. Marbaniang, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Shillong (T) Division attended a seminar on "Run-off and Soil Loss in Cherrapunjee", conducted by the Department of Geography, North Eastern Hills University, Shillong, Mayurbhanj Complex, under the Indo-Polish Collaborative Research Programme.
3rd March 2003 : Training on cashew cultivation for field staff ranging from soil conservation field workers to Soil Conservation Demonstrator (Jr) was held in the conference Hall of the office of the Joint Director, Soil Conservation Department, Tura. There also was a demonstration of different propagation Methods at Danakgre Soil Conservation Range.

12th March 2003 :Training was imparted on Cashewnut Cultivation and Production Technology to the field staff of the Simsanggre Soil Conservation Division. Various aspects like raising cashew in the nursery by improved propagation techniques; plant protection methods, processing, and grading were taught in the training programme. Altogether 26 Nos. of field staff attended the training programme.
20th March 2003 :A farmers training programme was held at Amphangre Range , Baghmara South Garo Hills. Shri H.L. Pyrtuh, Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills, inaugurated the training as Chief Guest. About 45 Nos. of farmers participated in the programme.
2nd April 2003 : The 4(four) months Advance Forester-I Training course for the trainees of Forest Department at Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat commenced.
6th - 8th May 2003:A training on cashew cultivation and production technology for field staff ranging from Soil Conservation Field Workers, Plantation Mali upto Soil Conservation Demonstrator (Jr) was held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Shillong (T) Division with a field visit to Mawblei Cashew plantation.
26th to 30th May 2003: Fourteen Officers from the Garo Hills Soil Conservation Divisions attended the Off-Campus training course on Participatory Watershed Management conducted by State Institute for Rural Development, Nongsder.
19th to 23rd May 2003: Shri F. Rynjah, Soil Conservation Officer, Monitoring & Evaluation attended a training programme on Project Planning, Evaluation and Management for North Eastern Region Officers at the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkatta, West Bengal sponsored by the Department of Development of North Eastern Region, New Delhi.
26th to 31st May 2003: Shri R.R.B.R. Thabah and Shri G. Chakravarty both Instructors at Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat attended the training programme on "Design of Training" conducted by Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong at its premises.
19th June 2003 :The Nongstoin Soil Conservation Division (T) conducted a training programme on Self-Help Group formation and its function at TRYSEM Hall. Shri.S.Kharlyngdoh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District was the Chief Guest and Shri.A.Laloo, Inspector of Schools, West Khasi Hills District was the Guest of Honour. Shri.B. Rumnong, Faculty Member, SIRD, Nongsder and Dr. A.K. Nongkynrih, Reader, Department of Sociology, NEHU were the Resource Persons at the training. The training stressed on the concept of Self-Help Groups, their management and maintenance. The Chief Guest appreciated the endeavours of the Soil Conservation Department in imparting techniques and ideas to the rural masses on their fight against poverty and other related issues by formation of such groups.

25th to 27th June 2003 :Shri G. Kharmujai, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Shillong (CC), Shri.K.S.Thubru, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Jowai (CC) and Shri S.A. Sangma, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Simsanggiri attended the training on Project Formulation for District level officials of Government Departments at The State Institute for Rural Development, Nongsder.
27th June 2003 :A farmers' training on Self Help Groups in Jaintia Hills District under Integrated Wasteland Development Programme was held on the 27th June 2003 . The training was organized by the Divisional Soil Conservation Officer (T) at Bosco Pnar, Jowai in which the Chief Guest was Shri P. Lyngdoh, M.D.C, Chairman, Planning Board, Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, Jowai and Guest of Honour was Rev. Fr. T. Ugo of Bosco Pnar, Jowai. The farming community from all the nine watershed operational areas attended the training. The purpose of organizing such training was to strengthen the concept of Self-Help Group. The Resource Person of the training included Shri K.W. Marbaniang, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Shillong (T) Division, Smti. S.Pohsnem and Smti. I. Rynjah Assistant Soil Conservation Officers, Shri B. Thangkhiew, Chairman, Umrynjah Watershed Committee (WDPSCA) and Shri Dengbok Kurkalang, Watershed Social Organizer under Umiew Micro-Watershed (IWDP).
