31st July, 2003 [(DSCO-J(T)]

The Jowai Soil Conservation (Territorial) Division organized Awareness campaign, in which about 200 nos of seedlings were planted by 175 nos of participants. The Division also distributed 2000 nos of horticultural seedlings free of cost to the farmers of Umladoh watershed. The Chief Guest at the function was Shri. B. Shylla, Local Member of Disrict Council.

31st July, 2003 [DSCO-(Nongpoh)]

The Ri-Bhoi Soil Conservation Division organized an awareness campaign to celebrate the water month at Oasis English School, Nongpoh, in which the school children participated.

The Nongstoin Soil Conservation Division held its celebration of water month at the Sibsing Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, Nongpyndeng, in which the theme of the celebration is "Water Conservation and Management of its Sources". The Resources persons who spoke on the occasion include Shri. L. Shabong and Shri. P. Rapthap, ASCOs of Nongstoin Division.

5th August, 2003 [DSCO-Tura (T)]

The Tura Soil Conservation Division celebrated the water month at Chidekgre. The participants at the function came from five number of adjoining village of the area and also include the watershed committee members of the Sora watershed. The Chief Guest at the occasion was Shri. R.W. Momin, Joint Director of Soil Conservation, Tura who in his speech appealed the villagers to protect the water catchment areas in their community or A’ Khing Land.

7th August, 2003 [DSCO-(Simsanggre)]

The Simsanggre Soil Conservation Division celebrated the Water Month at Dawagre Upper Primary School Premises. The Chief Guest at the occasion was Smti. H.K. Marak, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills, whereby she highlighted the problems of Water scarcity in the country and central Government policy on River linking project in the country to ease out the water problem in the country. Other resources person included Shri. S. Chisim, District Horticulture Officer.

An awareness campaign was also organised at Rongab Upper Primary School compound on the 8th August, 2003. About 500 farmers of Nengsit watershed project and school students participated in the programme. Shri. S.A. Sangma, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Simsanggre Soil Conservation Division, emphasized on the need to protect soil and vegetation for conserving water sources. Others who participated in the programme are Shri Sengdam Marak of Pattrangre village, Smti. Vivian Nokma of Norek A’khing Land. In these programmes, some of the officers and staff of the Department also took part.

16th August, 2003 [DSCO-(Shg-T)]

An Essay competition, quiz competition, drawing and painting competition with water as the theme was held at Umroi village in which a number of Higher Secondary School took part. A seminar was also organized in which students, community Leaders and members of various Self-Help Groups from the area participated. The chief Guest at the function was Smt. Patricia Mukhim, noted columnist and Padmashree who in her speech warned that the World is now experiencing water poverty and that by 2025, the world may face acute shortage of water. A documentary film on water conservation was shown by the District Information and Public Relation office.
