Message from the Director of Soil & Water Conservation

Dear friends,

I consider myself immensely lucky to have this opportunity to don the mantle of Director of Soil and Water Conservation Department after such distinguished incumbents like Late P.S. Ingty, Shri P.R. Mawthoh, Shri H.G. Momin and Shri K.L. Tariang, I.A.S. They have undoubtedly been pioneers in the growth of the Department upto the stage where everyone recognizes the Department’s contribution to the people and the State of Meghalaya. All the efforts of the former Directors culminated in the recognition of the services of the Department gaining national recognition through Shri Tariang getting the Gold Medal from the Soil Conservation Society of India last May.

Shri Tariang has made the people of the State in general and the officers and staff of the Department in particular proud. He has not only received the national recognition but also proved that he is fit to be among the cream of administrators in India by getting into the Indian Administrative Service. It is indeed my proud privilege to have taken over from him.

It is my personal feelings that in the success of Shri Tariang in the Department, all the officers and staff of the Department should also share the glory, because all have contributed through their active support and cooperation towards his success. As such, I give my congratulations to all the officers and staff of the Department. The support and guidance received from the Government, particularly the Commissioner & Secretary of Soil & Water Conservation and his team of officers and staff of the Soil and Water Conservation Administrative Department also should not be forgotten.

I would therefore urge upon officers and staff of the Department that we should not bask in past glories. There is still plenty of room for improvement. In fact, we still have a very long way to go. We in the Department are expected to do still better in future and the very fact that the image of the Department has to be kept intact, it is a mountain for us to climb. We need dedication, sincerity and hard work from each and every one of us; we need to continue with the same zeal, discipline, work culture and spirit of unity in the Department. Then there will be no reason why we cannot climb the mountain to reach our goals. Everyone’s contribution according to his or her ability, co-operation, support for each other, camaraderie and brotherly attitude in the Department should be continued.

I wish the Department more successes in future.

K.C. Momin,
Director of Soil & Water Conservation,
Meghalaya, Shillong
