Study Tours and Exposure Trips

The 32nd Batch Field Assistant Trainees of Conservation Training Institute, Byrnihat went on a study tour to East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts from 9th to 21st May, 2005. The purpose of the tour is to enable the trainees to acquaint themselves with the various works of soil and water conservation, forestry, agriculture, watershed management, central sector scheme, NABARD scheme, horticulture, study of rocks and minerals, science and technology undertaken by the Department in the above districts.

On 3rd February, 2005 a one day training-cum-exposure trip to Rural Resource Training Centre, Umran was made for members of the eight watersheds under I.W.D.P. The training started with a brief opening speech from Shri D.Langstieh, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Nongstoin. 95 members were taken on a visit to different sections where they were shown the different activities taken up at the Centre.

On 4th February, 2005 a one day exposure-cum-educational trip comprising of 15 members from 11 benefitting villages under Umyiap River Valley Project was made to the R.R.T.C. Umran where they were exposed to first hand knowledge of the activities of the Centre.

Trainees from C.T.I., Byrnihat, arrived at Mairang Soil & Water Conservation Range on 18th May 2005 enroute to Kyllang Rock to study the Geological formation of the Rock. Shri. S. S. Kharsyntiew ASCO and Shri. J. Diengkseh Range Officer, Mairang Range, accompanied the trainees.

On 20th May 2005, CTI trainees visited the different activities taken up under Umshyiap R.V.P. (Phase– II) of RIDF– IX, NABARD at Mawiawet, Mawkynbat and Mawkaton. They also visited the different activities of WDPSCA, Nonglong and were accompanied by Shri. S. S. Kharsyntiew ASCO, Nongstoin Division.

IAS trainee officers, namely- Smt. Avantika Gautam IAS, Assistant Commissioner Kamrup District, Shri Jayant Naulikar IAS, Assistant Commissioner Dibrugarh District and Dr. P.Ashok Babu, IAS, Assistant Commissioner Nagaon District of Assam visited some villages under Watershed Development Programme of WDPSCA, IWDP, Mawsmai Eco-Park, SGRY-I on 11th , 12th & 14th May 2005.

ARECANUT SEEDLINGS DISTRIBUTION

The Tura Soil & Water Conservation Cash Crop Division has launched the Arecanut Seedling Distribution under various schemes for the year 2005-06.

Under Watershed Management Schemes, a total of 7740 nos. of Arecanut seedlings were distributed to 258 nos. of families on 12th May, 2005 at Chidekgre Centre and under General Schemes, a total of 28,804 nos. of Arecanut seedlings were distributed to 379 nos. of families on 16th May, 2005 at Damjonggre Soil Conservation Range headquarters.

Shri B.M. Sangma, Divisional Officer, attended the Distribution function and briefed the beneficiaries on the aims and objectives of the schemes and of the Department and urged upon them to co-operate with the Department in implementation of the schemes to achieve the goals. He also thanked the beneficiaries for showing interest in such plantations and wished them success.
